Fun and Funny National Days to Celebrate!
I love a reason to celebrate!
Any day of the week will do and not just the National Holidays. I like to celebrate all the little things….. Like March 29th – National Pickle Day! When my oldest son was in Kindergarten, I brought an assortment of pickles to his classroom for all the kids to try! They LOVED it! (Be sure to clear it with the teacher first! They tend to frown on drop-ins of this kind!)
There is a wonderful website called holidaysforeveryday.com and if you go to the site it will tell you month by month all the fun and funny “national” holidays. For instance, did you know that March 1st is “Peanut Butter Lover’s Day”?! I’ve been known to celebrate this day! Yep! Peanut butter cookies, peanut butter sandwiches, peanut butter on celery sticks, peanut butter and crackers…. My family has had everything peanut butter I can think of on this auspicious occasion!
Another favorite of mine is March 4th, “Hug a GI Day”. Make a point of shaking the hand or giving a hug to those you see and those you know who are serving or have served in our military! Better yet, make them a batch of cookies or buy their lunch. We can’t ever thank them enough!
National Potato Chip Day is March 14th. March 26th is “Make Up Your Own Holiday, Day”! If you were to announce to your kids that they get to make up their own holiday and you were going to celebrate it, they would be over the top with excitement! Who know’s….. it might become an annual celebration in your family!
The “holiday” isn’t always all about food either! How about April 12th – “Look Up At The Sky Day”. When the kids get home from school, greet them with a quilt and an after school picnic and head to the backyard or nearby park to lie on the grass and Look Up At The Sky!! Too fun!!!
When you read through the monthly lists of holidays, you will find your inspiration! Pick one for every month and CELEBRATE! Sit down with your family and invent your own family holiday for a day during the year. Make it an all-out celebration! Invitations, special food, the works.
Every day is a celebration!! Make it joyful!!
Hugs,
Karen

Karen, it sounds like just might have a teensy bit of your Mamma in you:) What spontaneous and fun ideas! No wonder you have such good ideas…you’ve been “collecting” them all of your life and feeding your soul on them. Thanks for sharing:) Love you! ~ Marie
Hi Marie! Yep…. My Mom was my first inspiration!!! I miss her so! I more often than not, had some special note or surprise in my lunch box, even way into high school, that let me know she was thinking of me and cheering me on! What could be better than that?! Thank you Marie! Love you too!!!
